ZeroStation is pleased to inform
Collaborating with Independent art space Ruangrupa (www.ruangrupa.org), Jakarta, Indonesia, we would love to introduce a researching display of 7 video art piece by Japanese video artists from Tokyo Video Art Center.
Without profit, this display (accompanied with a catalogue) aims to create a platform for audience, journalists and young artists to approach to good video art works from one of important video art centre of the world
The display will be taken place in two weeks, from 14:30 Sunday, 15 May 2011, to Tuesday , 31 May 2011 in ZeroStation, 91 A Dinh Tien Hoang, ward 3, Binh Thanh district, HCMC, Vietnam

1-life IMAGED

Artist : Kazumi KANEMAKI
The juxtaposition of the images between a Western movie by Hollywood and the artist's routine life in the split screen, makes us compare the drama and the daily life. This also shows her daily life where surrounding images internalizes her. This work involves gender issues, since there is an attitude that as a woman it's hard to accept herself as the "Loser" in the Western movie.
2-Living in Box

Body parts are displayed in the white box as specimen. Each part tries to seek something and these behaviors seem to remind ourselves of today’s blockaded situation. This is the collaboration work with Naoya Ooe(operation) + Maiko Date(dancer) directed by Kentaro Taki. This is the short version of the original work

Each “moment” of destructive force of the reality has been shot, recorded, and visualized. Set the boundary of before and after deconstruction at the “moment” when image and sound of collision match together, and the artist visualizes idea of "non-revertible." This work deconstructs the image of deconstruction by differentiation, repetition, expansion and addition of image/sound of different moments

The simulation of how audiences reacted to films in early times, evokes the sense of falsehood but new perspectives. The extendation relates to the reference to media that to release from captivity of information system.
5- The lost in the Backyard of Surface

Artist: Naoya Ooe
This video is also the one in which artist tries to show the ways we react to images. All images, even though being captured from reality, once become imaged, becoming fiction as well in terms of stirring the fictional behavior of audience who is watching it. In this work, artist used his own video shooting himself when he was a child in order to structure interpretations, fictions, and a highly poetic and sad tales of himself.

This video consists of 6 acts of rhythmical and optical composition of a live quartet. The spectator encounters the boundary between the light and the image. A documentation of the premiere performance at Art Space Kimura, Tokyo in 2005.
7-Bild:Muell
Video installation, 2006, 5 mins
Artist: Kentaro Taki
A documentation of a video installation exhibited in Yokohama Portside Gallery in 2006. "Bild:Muell" means "Image: Junk" in German. The video collage projected on various shaped cubes simulates the cityscape overflowed with images/information.

B-Artists Bio
1-Kazumi KANEMAKI
Born 1972 in Niigata Perfecture. Studies Film/Video Art at College of Santa Fe, New Mexico, US. Returning to Japan in 1997, Kanemaki continuelly makes individual video works, while maintaining job as a video editor. Participates in VIDEOART CENTER Tokyo (2000-2004).
Vigorously participating in various film festivals since '99, Kanemaki was awarded Der Preis der Veranstalter in the 2002 Bochumer Film and Video Festival, Bochum, Germany. Kanemaki has takes media courses Klasse Sieverding (2006-2007) at Universitat der Kunste(Udk) Berlin. Sets up VIDEO CALLING in 2005.
2-Kentaro Taki
Born 1973 in Osaka, completed a degree in the Masters course of Department of Imaging Arts and Sciences, Musashino Art University in 1996. He is dedicated to making art of sound and images with video technology and computers. He is a receipt of grants from Cultural Agency of Japan (2002) and POLA Art Foundation in Karlsruhe, Germany (2003). Now he works as a director of VIDEO ART CENTER Tokyo, and devotes himself to creating alternative artist networks and innovative situations.
3- Shuhei Nishiyama
Born in 1976, Japan. Making single channel video, installation, performance, VJ. Showing works at the foreign & domestic festival, galley, live house such as Vanishing Point, Australia, Flickers of Maldoros, Yokohama, Gallery Ou, Osaka, Rio de Janero, Brazil. Now he is Living in Kanagawa, Japan
4-Katsuyuki HATTORI.
Born 1973 in Tokyo, co-founded seminal video art organizations in Tokyo: Spread Videoart Project, art Lab. GOLDENSHIT, and VIDEOART CENTER Tokyo. Exploring various aspects of video art, he creates both representational and non-representational video works. His works were shown in “18. Kasseler Dokumentar film - und Videofestes” (2001, Kasseler) “laisle.com video experimental e video arte,” (2003, Rio de Janeiro), “telepidemic! Int.” (2004, Hong Kong), “punto yraya festival 0.2” (2007, Madrid). He was an artist in residence at VIDEO POOL Media Art Center (2007, Winnipeg).
5-Naoya Ooe
Born 1983 in Osaka, graduated from Kawaguchi Art school of Waseda University. He studied theory, filmmaking, advertising, television, experimental cinema and movie production technology. At the same time, he was educated by Sato Makoto, one of Japan’s most important documentary film makers at THE FILM SCHOOL OF TOKYO. Ooe belongs to “Rhizome TV”, “design art unit NOR”, “media performance unit MiHaRi”. He acts as video engineer for Video art Center Tokyo and is also engaged in the production of documentary
