Zero station (www.zerostationvn.org) would like to introduce to you our new project “When everything becomes music” – a collaboration project between Zero station and Noridan team from South Korea.

Dear friends,

Zero station (www.zerostationvn.org) would like to introduce to you our new project “When everything becomes music” – a collaboration project between Zero station and Noridan team from South Korea. Noridan is a cultural social arts organization of South Korea based in BusanNoridan’s main philosophy consists:

1- Recycling old, thrown-away objects to musical instruments.

2- Arts as means to directly communicate with life, not as means to serve elite groups

3-  Emphasizing on group work’s processes, connect what are supposed impossible to connect, as a metaphor for dialoguing process between the “We” and the “They”, between “the We” and “The World”. Noridan’s philosophy, in a way, is Zero station’s philosophy with its central metaphor is an Adapter, where all differences can be transformed to come into contact with each other without changing themselves, and where all differences together create a new dialogues that enrich every participant.

For that reason, a three-week long project “When everything becomes music” is born.

Project’s structure:

a/ Multi-functional-recycled-musical instrument-sculpture reflects upon the city.

In the mornings of the 3 weeks from August 31st to September 22nd, 2013, 6 artists of Noridan will survey the city to collect thought/ images/emotions in their interactions with the city. In this journey, the artists themselves become the open radars, activating broadcasts/ dialogues to Saigon city that is formerly an external-entity, through the dialogue process in 3 weeks, will be translated into their emotions and become organic part of their own internal experiences

During these “on-the-ways”, 6 “wanders” will collect thrown-away objects, which right at the moment catch their eyes and are collected, creates an “ereignis” of interaction/ translation, a moment of “understanding” which happens between they and the city they are in. All the found objects in this 21-morning’s wandering trip then will be the material for the multi-functional-recycled-musical instrument-sculpture, carrying the emotions, feelings and ideas of Noridan wanders reflecting upon Saigon.

And, the base for the making of this multi-functional-recycled-musical instrument-sculpture is Zero station.

b/ The making-of-musical-instruments studio and open-workshop in 21 days.

In 3 weeks from August 31st to September 22nd, 2013, Zero station becomes an open workshop and making –recycled-musical-instrument studio. All the Zero station space, formerly is accessed on the side, will be renovated to opened at the front toward the general and public yard of the alley 288 Nam Ki Khoi Nghia, ward 8 district 3 where ZeroStation locates

From 1pm-6pm every day, from August 31st to September 22nd, 2013, 6 Korean artists of Noridan will be working at Zero station, making the multi-functional-recycled-musical instrument-sculpture from the found objects collected in the morning wanderings

This working process in every evening, happened in the ZeroStation space which now opens to public yard of residence 288 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia St. in which Zero station is based, also becomes the process which opens and welcome the interactions between the artists with the residents living there. At the same time, it becomes kind of open workshop for any participation, long-term, short-term, just for fun or contributive from anybody from any background, age, professional or non-professional who are known about the project and who are interested in being part of it.

The process of working together in this open workshop is also the metaphor for a multidirectional dialogue where nobody imposes his/her ideas on another, and anybody can lead the dialogue to any possible direction – so that it is also a metaphor for the essence of the living-with-the-other, not in terms of political correctness, but in terms of being ready to face with the otherness/differences and in this facing to open new and creative communication spaces

c/ 21 interventions

During 21 working days in ZerostationNoridan will play 21 improvised performances (shortest about 5 minutes) at every afternoon.  These performances (or interventions) will interact and intervene the surround milieu, the everyday life of the neighbors by using every tool, every equipment, every material and every means that are always available around.

The 21 Interventions will interrupt the rhythm of everyday life, and at the same time, the local everyday life will turn to be a source of material, which is used to make art.
