A-Who is Zhuang wubin
Zhuang Wubin (b. 1978; Singapore) is a writer focusing on the photographic practices of Southeast Asia. A 2010 recipient of the research grant from Prince Claus Fund (Amsterdam), Zhuang is an editorial board member of Trans-Asia Photography Review, a journal published by the Hampshire College and the University of Michigan Scholarly Publication Office.

As a photographer, Zhuang uses the medium to understand the cultures and histories of the Chinese communities in Southeast Asia. Supported by Lee Foundation, Chinese Muslims in Indonesia (2011) is his third photographic monograph and features essays by historian Dr. Charles Coppel, curator Enin Supriyanto and Yenny Wahid.

This eight-day workshop is for photographers and artists who want to develop personal photo projects. Working with curator/photographer Zhuang Wubin, the aim is to take each participant through the process of developing his/her project, starting from the conceptualization to the realization/presentation of the work.
The workshop is ideal for people who want to take the next step and create photo projects.
This workshop will take place from 14 to 20 July 2013, and will be hosted by ZeroStation in Saigon, Vietnam. Founded in 2010, ZeroStation is a not-for-profit space that aims to create opportunities for exchange between the young artists of Vietnam and the rest of the world. ZeroStation aims to find ways for local audience to understand and connect with global art and cultural practices.

This workshop is for serious hobbyists, budding artists and professional photographers who want to develop photo projects.
Participants can propose projects that are documentary or conceptual in nature. They can use the workshop to continue their ongoing work. Or they can go out and shoot a new project. They can also work entirely on Photoshop or with found, vernacular photographs.
This is not a technical workshop. The focus is on conceptualization, execution, editing and presentation.
There will be one grant award for a Vietnamese passport holder, who can attend this workshop for free.
 3-How to apply to workshop
To apply for the workshop, please submit the following:
a) Not more than 20 images (about 720 pixels on the longer side) from ONE body of work + A short intro to this series (optional)
b) Project proposal to be developed during the workshop (either a new project or an ongoing series)
c) A few paragraphs about your background in photography and why you want to participate in this workshop
4- Fees for participation
Vietnamese participants: US$100 each
International participants: US$200 each
Please notethat items like food, insurance, accommodation, local transport and flight arrangements are not covered. However, ZeroStation and Zhuang Wubin will help in other ways to make your trip to Saigon hassle-free, including recommending accommodation.
For the international participants, if you need fixers, the rate will be US$ 30 per day (the cost includes gas and motobirke in 8 hours from morning). There may be the possibility that we will be able to find volunteers for you on selected days. But please budget for the cost of fixers.










5-Payment Details
In Vietnam: Cash or Bank transfer to Zero Station (Saigon) (the selected participant will be informed the bank account and number of ZeroStation or the way to pay cash for workshop)
International: Cash payment in Singapore. Or Bank transfer to Singapore (the selected participant will be informed the bank account and number)
Participants are expected to make payment once their places in the workshop are confirmed. We will only hold the seats for them for a short duration.
